Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between you and MB Daivina (Mažoji bendrija Daivina), Lauko g. 6, Kvetkai, LT-41212, Lithuania, about SonaNote and the service behind it. We make the app, we run that service, and we support both ourselves; write to support@sonanote.app. Using SonaNote means accepting these terms, which are published at https://sonanote.app/terms beside the Privacy Policy and are in Settings under Legal.
In short: your notes live on your device and we keep no copy; distilling a note and asking a question send that note to our service and on to our AI provider; and what comes back can be confidently wrong.
What SonaNote is
You write notes. Distill turns a note into a study kit: a summary, key terms, flashcards, and, where the note has enough in it, a quiz and a mindmap. Ask answers a question about one of your notes.
Distilling, asking and reporting run on our service and need a connection. Writing, studying, reading text out of a photograph or a PDF, and laying out the maps all happen on your device. The app also speaks to the app store you installed SonaNote from, and to the providers that check a subscription and guard the service. The Privacy Policy lists everything that leaves your device.
Who may use SonaNote
SonaNote is for people aged 16 and over, and for anyone under 18 only with a parent or guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of it. Only an adult may buy a subscription. If someone under 16 is using SonaNote, tell us and we will delete anything of theirs that we hold.
Your notes are yours; the app is ours
What you write, photograph, import and dictate stays yours. We claim no ownership of it and take no licence over it, beyond the permission that a feature you choose to use needs: distilling a note, or asking a question about one, sends it to our service and on to our AI provider and brings back a kit or an answer. That permission lasts as long as the request and no longer. We keep no copy. Our AI provider does not train its models on your notes, and may hold one only briefly to check for abuse of its own service. Ask us and we will name the companies involved.
Your notes are on your device and not with us, so we cannot recover them for you: keep a backup. Settings has a one-file backup and every note exports as Markdown, built for exactly that. You must have the right to hold whatever you put into the app, and other people's health, financial or identity details should stay out of a note you distil or report.
SonaNote itself is ours, along with its design, text, artwork and code. The licence to use the app comes with the app from the store you installed it from, on that store's standard terms; these terms cover the service we run and your subscription.
SonaNote writes with AI, and it can be wrong
Summaries, key terms, flashcards, quiz questions, mindmaps and Ask's answers are written by an AI model, not by a person. Ask is instructed to answer from your note alone, but it is still generated text and can get that wrong too. All of it is a study aid and not verified fact. Check what matters against a source you trust, and never rely on it for a medical, legal, financial or safety decision.
If SonaNote writes something wrong, offensive or harmful, tap Report: a study kit, an answer and a mindmap each carry the action, and it reaches us without your leaving the app. For a flashcard or a quiz question, report that note's kit and say which one. A report sends the text SonaNote wrote, what it was asked for, anything you type, and an identifier for your installation; it sends no other note. We store and review reports, and they change how the feature behaves and what the model is allowed to write. Our service filters that output as well, though no filter catches everything. The Privacy Policy says how long we keep a report, and we will delete yours if you ask.
Using SonaNote fairly
Please do not use SonaNote, or anything it writes, for anything unlawful, hateful or harassing; for sexual content involving a child or an unconsenting adult; or for material promoting violence, self-harm, terrorism, weapons, drugs or fraud. Please do not try to make it produce any of that, and do not attempt to defeat any technical limit, licence check or safeguard in the app.
Distilling and asking are paid requests that we send to our AI provider, so both run inside limits on what one installation and one subscription may do in a period. Those limits sit far above what studying takes; if you meet one, the app says so and tells you when it starts again. We may also slow, pause or suspend them where an installation is plainly not a person studying: scripted requests, a modified copy of the app, a device that fails its operating system's integrity checks, or volumes beyond what anyone could read. These judgements are automatic and made from the pattern of requests; we never read your notes to make them, everything else in the app keeps working, and if we have it wrong a person will look while you put your side.
Subscriptions
Pro lifts the free plan's monthly limit, so you can distil what you write, and adds Exam mode, Ask this note and PDF study sheets, inside the limits above. Without Pro you can still write, study, review and export everything, and distil a set number of notes each month; Settings says how many. Before you confirm, the app shows you the plan, its price, the length of each period and the terms of any offer, read from your app store.
- Your app store takes the payment under its own terms, which apply alongside these.
- A subscription renews for the same period until you cancel it in your app store's subscription settings. Removing the app cancels nothing, and a cancellation made in the last day before a renewal may not stop that renewal.
- We may change what a plan costs, never for a period already paid for. We will tell you beforehand and say how to cancel, and where your app store asks you to agree to a higher price, nothing renews until you do.
- Refunds are asked for from your app store under its policy. Your statutory rights are separate and run against us, so if one you are owed does not arrive, write to us.
As a consumer in the EU or EEA you have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. That right ends early only if you asked for immediate access, acknowledged that you were giving it up, and we confirmed that back to you on a durable medium — which we usually cannot, because your app store takes the purchase. Ask your app store, or ask us, within those 14 days.
When things change, and how this ends
We may change SonaNote to meet a legal or security requirement, because a service we rely on changes, to keep it working on new devices, or to retire a feature too few people use or that we can no longer support. A change never costs you extra. We may update these terms for the same reasons, or to make them clearer.
If a change to the app or to these terms would take something away — by limiting what you can do, or cutting your rights or what you pay for — we will tell you a reasonable time beforehand, on a durable medium you can keep, and date it at https://sonanote.app/terms beside the version it replaces. You may then end your subscription within 30 days of being told or of the change taking effect, whichever is later, at no cost, with a refund within 14 days for time you have paid for and will not get. This does not apply where the effect on you is minor, or where we keep your existing version working at no extra cost. Any smaller change takes effect when the date on this page changes, and using SonaNote after that means you accept it.
You can end this agreement whenever you like: cancel any subscription in your app store's subscription settings, then remove the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms seriously or repeatedly; unless we have to act at once, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to put it right. If a paid subscription ends for any reason other than your own breach, we stop it renewing and refund, through your app store, the time you have paid for and cannot use. Your notes stay on your device either way.
What we promise, and what we do not
If SonaNote is faulty or is not what we described, you have the rights the law gives you: to have it put right and, where we cannot, to a price reduction or your money back. No service runs faultlessly, and generated study material is never guaranteed accurate; neither fact cuts down those rights.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Beyond that, we are responsible for loss that was a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms, and not for loss that neither of us could reasonably have foreseen.
Law, and where to take a complaint
Lithuanian law governs these terms. If you are a consumer, that choice cannot take away the mandatory protections of the law where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts there.
Write to support@sonanote.app first. If we cannot settle it, a consumer in Lithuania may take the matter to the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority (Valstybinė vartotojų teisių apsaugos tarnyba), vvtat.lrv.lt, and a consumer elsewhere in the EU or EEA to the certified alternative dispute resolution body in their own country. A complaint about how we handle your personal data goes instead to a data protection authority: ours is the State Data Protection Inspectorate of Lithuania, vdai.lrv.lt.
